This game came out originally for the MSX and later out for the Nes in europe. It is a very rare game to get a hold of but is comming out with MGS 3.1 Snake Eater along with MG 2.
The Solid Snake Character was inspired by the 1981 hit Escape of New York. Kurt Russels Character was called Snake Plissken a hard ass who was sent in to take down a superlord in a new age military Nation of New York, the Metal Gear game holds the same basis. Later in Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty, Snake refers himself to 'Plissken' as his alias when encountering Raiden.
The hit Metal Gear was a whole new concept to game especially in 1987 where gaming was comming to a new level. Metal Gears Basis was to avoid the enemy insted of attacking them relentlessly as in many western games were mainly on. Hideo Kojima wanted something along the lines of the hit Movie "The Great Escape". Where you had to sneak past the enemy unseen this created more suspence in the game and for the first time sratagy in a 2D environment.
